Ultra high speed imaging and laser diagnostics used in experiments to measure fusion implosion instabilities
Enterprise Sciences supported experimental research at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory to study various physics problems associated with the development of laser-driven fusion energy. In this example, Enterprise Sciences designed experiments where high power laser systems were used to drive spherical and planar targets with pressures exceeding a million earth atmospheres. Specialized x-ray, optical, and laser diagnostics were utilized to measure the compression dynamics of the driven targets. Such measurements are critical to the eventual perfection of laser driven fusion because they help understand and control harmful instabilities that destroy the implosion and prevent fusion ignition.
